Advice, Not Intimidation! – Okpebholo Insists He Warned Obi Out Of Duty, Not Malice
Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has reaffirmed that he has no regrets over his earlier remarks directed at former Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, advising him to always inform the state’s leadership before visiting.
According to IReporter Online, the governor made this statement on Tuesday during the official commissioning of the New Edo Line transport company in Benin City.
Governor Okpebholo emphasized that his comment was merely a piece of advice, not a threat, as widely misinterpreted. He recalled a tragic incident during the tenure of former Governor Godwin Obaseki, in which his police orderly, Inspector Akor Onu, was shot dead at the Benin Airport after he failed to heed a security warning. “If notifying the Chief Security Officer of the state before a visit is now a crime, so be it,” he stated.
According to IReporter Online, Okpebholo insisted his position was guided by experience and valid security intelligence. “It is not a threat. I have no regrets. If Peter Obi likes, he can take the advice; if he doesn’t, that’s his decision.
But as someone who has witnessed the consequences of ignoring such warnings, I stand by what I said,” he reiterated.
On the significance of the newly launched Edo Line, the governor credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continuous support and increased federal allocation to the state, which made the project feasible, “The dream of Edo Line wouldn’t be possible without a leader like President Tinubu.
He’s not just funding us, he’s monitoring the progress and delivering practical governance.
His Renewed Hope agenda is transforming this country,” he said.
According to IReporter Online, Okpebholo concluded by thanking the people of Edo State for entrusting him with their votes, calling their support a “sign of progress” and a long-awaited breakthrough from years of political stagnation. “This is a dream come true. The people have spoken, and we’re moving forward,” he added.
