Anambra Agency Destroys ₦50m Worth Of Illicit Drugs, Arrests Suspects

The Anambra State Special Anti-Touting Squad (SASA) has destroyed illicit drugs valued at approximately ₦50 million following coordinated raids across Awka, the state capital, and surrounding communities.

According to Ireporter Online, the operation was carried out based on credible intelligence aimed at dismantling illegal drug networks and tackling criminal activities across the state. Speaking during the exercise, the Managing Director of SASA, Monday Nwokoye, disclosed that suspects arrested in connection with the illicit drug trade had been transferred to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Nwokoye explained that the enforcement action reflects the agency’s unwavering commitment to eliminating drug abuse, touting, and other forms of criminality in Anambra. He noted that the seized substances, estimated to be worth about ₦50 million, were immediately destroyed to prevent them from finding their way back into circulation.

He revealed that the confiscated drugs included cocaine, cannabis sativa, tramadol, Ghanaian loud, mkpulu mmiri, and other prohibited substances recovered from different locations within Awka and its environs.

The SASA boss issued a stern warning to individuals involved in the sale or consumption of illicit drugs, urging them to abandon such activities or face severe legal consequences. He reiterated that the agency would continue to carry out intelligence-driven operations without fear or favour to ensure the state remains free from hard drugs and criminal elements.

Nwokoye also acknowledged the support of Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, stating that the administration’s backing has strengthened the agency’s efforts in combating crime. He further appealed to residents of Anambra State to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities in their communities, stressing that public cooperation is vital to building a safer, more secure, and prosperous state.
