Another Community Attacked In Bokkos, Plateau

Shortly after armed groups launched attacks between Saturday evening and Tuesday morning on Bokkos Local Government Area in Plateau State, the community of Budel in the Tangur district of the same local government faced an attack on Thursday night.

Monday Kassah, the Transition Committee Chairman of Bokkos, revealed that marauders attacked the community at night, burning and destroying homes. Kassah mentioned that no deaths were recorded due to the timely intervention of security personnel.

Providing an update on the Christmas Day attack, the committee chairman stated that the number of casualties still stands at 195, confirming that rescue operations were ongoing to find missing persons.

Among the casualties, 148 were killed in Bokkos Local Government Area, 19 in Mangu Local Government Area, and 27 in Barkin Ladi. In Bokkos council, 1,290 houses were burnt down, one house was razed in Mangu LGA, and the extent of damage in Barkin Ladi was yet to be ascertained.

The Christmas Day attacks, which originated in the Bokkos area, extended into neighboring Barkin Ladi, resulting in 30 people found dead, according to local chairman Danjuma Dakil.

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang condemned the violence, describing it as “barbaric, brutal, and unjustified.” Gyang Bere, the governor’s spokesperson, stated that the government would take proactive measures to curb ongoing attacks against innocent civilians.

Gunfire was reported to still be heard on late Monday afternoon, according to a source from the region. A resident of Mushu village reported that people were sleeping when shots rang out, causing fear and prompting some to hide. The assailants captured many people, resulting in some being killed and others wounded.
