APC Announces Overhaul In Leadership Lineup: Betta Edu, Kyari, Nwosu, And More Replaced
The All Progressives Congress (APC) is undergoing a seismic shift in its leadership composition as the party readies itself for a new era. A list of nominees, proposed by zonal and state chapters, has surfaced, showcasing a fresh set of individuals poised to take on pivotal roles within the National Working Committee (NWC). This move, pending ratification by the National Executive Committee (NEC), has garnered widespread attention due to the replacement of prominent figures.
Dr. Stella Odey-Ekpo, a former Cross River State Commissioner for Local Government, is making headlines as the nominee for the Women Leader position. Ali Dalori, currently serving as APC Chairman in Borno State, is in the running for the Deputy National Chairman position in the North. Notably, Prof. Abdulkarim Kana, former Nasarawa State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, has been nominated for the Legal Adviser position.
The lineup doesn’t stop there. Martins Azubuike, a former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, has emerged as the nominee for Welfare Officer. Meanwhile, Muritala Ajaka, once the Special Adviser on Water Resources to the Kogi State Governor, is being considered for the role of Deputy National Publicity Secretary.
The sweeping changes are a direct response to a directive from the NEC, signifying the party’s intent to rejuvenate its leadership dynamics. These shifts follow the recent assumption of roles by former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje as National Chairman and Senator Ajibola Basiru as National Secretary.
In addition to the vacancies left by transitioning leaders, the restructured NWC is accommodating the departure of members who have either been nominated for ministerial positions by President Bola Tinubu or who have voluntarily resigned. This recalibration underscores the party’s commitment to maintain a robust and effective team to steer its course.
The process of nominating new leaders adheres to the zoning system outlined in Article 31.5 of the APC Constitution, a strategy established ahead of the April 2022 National Convention to guide filling vacancies within the party’s hierarchy.
The selection process has been a collaborative effort, involving consultations and endorsements from state chapters and zones. The nomination of Ali Dalori as Deputy National Chairman (North) resulted from coordination between the Borno State chapter and the Northeast Executive Committee. Similarly, Dr. Stella Odey-Ekpo’s nomination as National Women Leader reflects the Cross River State chapter’s endorsement.
As the APC embraces a new phase of leadership, the nomination procedure is testament to the party’s commitment to adapt and evolve. The NWC is anticipated to finalize the appointments for the vacant positions in the near future, setting the stage for an invigorated phase in the party’s journey.
