“APC Dominates Edo Central: Joseph Ikpea Wins Senatorial By-Election!”

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced Dr. Joseph Ikpea of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the Saturday by-election for Edo Central Senatorial District.

INEC Returning Officer Prof. Kingsley Omo-Iwoze, speaking in Ubiaja, the headquarters of Esan South-East LGA, declared Ikpea the victor with 105,129 votes. He defeated his closest rival, Joe Okojie of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 15,146 votes.

According to iReporter Online, Prof. Omo-Iwoze stated, “This is the declaration. I, Prof. Omo-Iwoze, hereby certify that I am the Returning Officer for the 2025 Edo Central Senatorial District bye election, held on the 16th day of August, 2024.

That Ikpea Joseph of APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared winner of the election.”

Speaking shortly after his victory was announced, the senator-elect dedicated his success to God and the people of the district, emphasizing that they have chosen progress over politics-as-usual.

He also pledged to work closely with the governor, party members, and community leaders to ensure that every part of Edo Central benefits from quality representation.

According to iReporter Online, the new senator highlighted that Governor Monday Okpebholo, a leader of exceptional qualities, has been a stabilizing force throughout the journey.

He promised to prioritize legislation and interventions in infrastructure, youth empowerment, education, healthcare, and the strengthening of traditional institutions.

It is noteworthy that, according to iReporter Online, the electoral umpire declared the Edo Central Senatorial seat vacant following the election of the former occupant, Monday Okpebholo, who is now serving as the Executive Governor of Edo State.
