APC Explains Reason Behind Kwara Governorship Primaries Postponement

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (All Progressives Congress) governorship primaries in Kwara State, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, has confirmed the postponement of the party’s governorship primary election earlier scheduled for Thursday, stating that it has been shifted to Friday due to logistical challenges.

According to Ireporter Online, Obanikoro made this known while briefing journalists at the party secretariat in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State. He explained that the decision became necessary to ensure proper coordination and fairness in the conduct of the exercise, noting that the committee arrived late and required additional time to effectively manage the process.

“We postponed the election due to logistic issues. We came in late and we needed to be fair to all and to be able to have an effective management of the election, we needed a full day to do that,” he said.

He assured party members and aspirants that the committee is fully prepared and that the primaries will hold across the state on Friday as rescheduled. Obanikoro further urged all aspirants to embrace unity and see the emergence of any candidate as a collective victory for the party.

He emphasized that internal competition should not divide members, stressing that the overall interest of the party remains supreme.

Ten governorship aspirants were present at a strategic meeting held on Thursday evening following the postponement. Those in attendance included Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki (MFR), Dr Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa, Prof. Wale Sulaiman, Engr Femi Sanni, Dr Tajudeen Alabi, Aisha Ahmad-Patigi, Mohammed Bio, Musiliat Yetunde Adebowale, Dr Muideen Salako, and Captain Ahmad Mahmoud.

Obanikoro added that the meeting was held in a spirit of unity, describing the process as a family discussion among members of the party, and reaffirmed commitment to ensuring a smooth and credible primary election.
