APC New Media Demands Obaseki Pay AAU Staff, Stop Misusing State Funds for PDP Campaign
— Press Statement from the APC New Media Directorate
The APC New Media Directorate has issued a strong statement urging Governor Godwin Obaseki and the PDP to immediately address the alarming situation at Ambrose Alli University (AAU). The Directorate has condemned what it describes as the deliberate neglect of AAU staff, who are owed up to 32 months of unpaid salaries, and accused the Edo State Government of using these unpaid wages to finance the gubernatorial campaign of Asue Ighodalo.
In a recent interaction between the Labour Party gubernatorial candidate and AAU staff, senior lecturers revealed the severe financial difficulties they have endured under Governor Obaseki’s administration. They disclosed that some staff members have not been paid for 32 months, while others are owed for up to 25 months. One lecturer, deeply emotional, recorded a plea to Governor Obaseki, urging him to stop diverting state funds meant for salaries towards political campaigns.
The APC New Media Directorate did not mince words in its criticism of Governor Obaseki. They accused him of a “blatant misuse of Edo State resources,” arguing that the funds owed to AAU staff have been channeled into propping up the PDP gubernatorial candidate, Asue Ighodalo. This, according to the Directorate, is a betrayal of the people of Edo State and a gross injustice to the staff of AAU.
“The drastic reduction in AAU’s funding from over N270 million during Oshiomhole’s tenure to less than a hundred million under Obaseki is not just an administrative oversight but a deliberate act of sabotage against the institution and its staff,” the statement read. “This is more than just poor governance; it is a profound moral failure.”
The APC New Media Directorate is demanding that Governor Obaseki take immediate action to rectify the situation. They are calling on him to pay the outstanding salaries of AAU staff without delay and to stop using state funds for political campaigns. The Directorate warned that the people of Edo State would not stand idly by while their resources are misused for political gain.
