Obaseki and PDP Accused of Voter Card Manipulation in Edo: APC Urges Public to Defend Democracy

The APC New Media Directorate has sounded the alarm over what it claims are efforts by Governor Godwin Obaseki and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to manipulate the upcoming Edo State elections through the illicit collection of voters’ cards. The Directorate has called on Edo citizens to stand up and defend their democratic rights, labeling these actions as a direct threat to the integrity of the electoral process.

This concern arises following the emergence of a video from Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area (LGA), purportedly showing a coordinated effort between INEC officials and PDP operatives to collect voters’ cards en masse. The video, which has been widely circulated, features a woman revealing the systematic gathering of these cards, which the APC claims is part of a broader strategy to tilt the election in the PDP’s favor.

The APC New Media Directorate insists that this is not an isolated case. Reports of missing voter cards have surfaced from various parts of Edo State, particularly in Unit 6 (Edokha Primary School, Ukhomedokha) and Ward 10 (Okpekpe). APC members in these areas, who recently registered for their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), have allegedly discovered that their cards are missing, fueling concerns of a targeted effort to disenfranchise opposition supporters.

In its statement, the APC New Media Directorate questioned the motives behind these actions, accusing the PDP of resorting to desperate measures due to a loss of public trust. “The people of Edo State have seen through the failed promises and mismanagement of the Obaseki administration, and the PDP’s attempt to manipulate the electoral process is a clear sign of their desperation,” the Directorate stated.

The APC has called on all Edo citizens to remain vigilant and to actively protect their right to vote. The Directorate urged the public to demand transparency and accountability from INEC, stressing that the integrity of the election must be preserved. “Edo State is not for sale, and the people will not allow their future to be compromised by those who have failed them,” the statement read.

In a direct message to Governor Obaseki and the PDP, the APC New Media Directorate warned that any attempt to impose a candidate like Asue Ighodalo, who they describe as out of touch with the people’s needs, will be met with strong resistance. “The people of Edo deserve a leader who is genuinely committed to their welfare, not someone handpicked to continue the legacy of failure,” the Directorate asserted.
