former Kano State Governor and influential political figure, Rabiu Kwankwaso, held a behind-closed-doors meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the President’s official residence on Monday.

The meeting came shortly after Kwankwaso’s presence at the Nigeria Forest Economy Summit 2025, which was held at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.

ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE, this marks the second publicly known engagement between Tinubu and Kwankwaso in just over two years.

Their last known encounter took place on June 9, 2023—shortly after Tinubu’s inauguration—making Kwankwaso the first presidential candidate to pay him a courtesy visit.

While Monday’s discussion was not accessible to the press, the timing of the visit is drawing political attention, especially as it comes on the heels of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) announcing a coalition designed to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections.

Though the NNPP, Kwankwaso’s party, is not officially part of the coalition, opposition leaders are reportedly eager to bring him into their strategic fold.

ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE, Kwankwaso—founder of the Kwankwasiyya movement and a key northern political power-broker—is being closely watched by both the ruling party and the opposition.

With his strong grassroots influence in Kano and history as a former defence minister and two-term governor, his private visit to Aso Rock is widely viewed as a signal of potential political realignment ahead of 2027.
