“Tears, Thunder, And Protest: Retired Officers March Through Rain For Justice”

A group of retired police officers took to the streets of Abuja on Monday, marching through torrential rain to the gates of the National Assembly to demand their removal from the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), which they denounced as unjust and insufficient.

Undeterred by the heavy downpour, the aging protesters—many in their 60s and 70s—carried placards and chanted protest songs as they confronted lawmakers.

From the National Assembly, they proceeded to the Force Headquarters, vowing not to back down until their voices were heard.

ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE, the retirees described the CPS as a “discriminatory pension scheme” that has continuously failed to guarantee their post-service wellbeing.

They lamented that years of petitions and negotiations had produced no tangible results, accusing the federal government of turning a blind eye to their suffering.

The protest, which drew support from civil rights advocates such as Omoyele Sowore and Deji Adeyanju, was marked by impassioned chants for justice.
