The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) chapter at Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology, Aliero (AFUSTA), has issued a two-week ultimatum to the Kebbi State Government and the university management, warning that failure to address its demands could result in an indefinite strike.

According to Ireporter Online, the union said the action became necessary due to the continued non-implementation of the 2025 Federal Government/ASUU Agreement, which took effect on January 1, 2026, alongside several unresolved welfare issues affecting its members.

The decision was announced in a statement jointly signed by the branch chairman, Dr. Isah Musa-Fakai, and the secretary, Dr. Gado Abubakar, following deliberations by the ASUU-AFUSTA Congress and the ASUU National Visitation Team on July 30.

The union explained that despite repeated engagements and communications with the relevant authorities, the issues raised by its members remain unresolved, prompting the congress to adopt a stronger stance.

ASUU disclosed that the ultimatum will run from July 31 to August 13, during which the Governing Council and university management are expected to fully implement the provisions of the 2025 agreement and address all outstanding welfare concerns.

The lecturers stressed that industrial action remains a last resort, noting that several attempts to resolve the dispute through dialogue had failed to produce the desired results. However, the union reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful negotiations and expressed hope that the issues could still be resolved without disrupting academic activities.

ASUU-AFUSTA urged the Kebbi State Government, the university’s Governing Council and management to take immediate action within the two-week window to avert a shutdown of academic activities.

The union warned that if its demands are not fully met by the expiration of the ultimatum, members would embark on a total and indefinite strike, appealing to all stakeholders to intervene in the interest of students, staff and the overall stability of the institution.
