Former Sokoto State Governor, Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, has asserted that there are no longer true opposition parties in Nigeria’s political landscape.

reports that Bafarawa, speaking during an interview with BBC Hausa, reacted to the wave of defections by prominent politicians from opposition parties to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Bafarawa, a former stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) until his resignation on January 13, 2025, lamented that opposition politicians are now solely focused on personal political ambitions and benefits, rather than on improving the lives of ordinary Nigerians.

The former governor expressed deep concern over issues like youth unemployment and poor access to education, criticizing the opposition for ignoring these pressing challenges.

He stated, “Opposition politics is dead in Nigeria. As a result, both political aspirants and those they seek to lead are confused. The politicians are blinded by selfishness and lack compassion. Their sole aim is to secure political positions, while the masses are blinded by hunger, poverty, and ignorance, causing chaos everywhere.
