Bandits Attack Travellers In Ogun, Set Bus On Fire

A group of armed bandits intercepted a luxury bus traveling to Abakaliki over the weekend, robbed all passengers, and subsequently set the vehicle ablaze. According to SP Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, the armed bandits attacked the bus, which was en route to the southeast for Easter festivities, wielding cutlasses but did not use firearms. All 59 passengers onboard the luxury Mercedes-Benz bus operated by Ifesinachi Transport Nig. Ltd. were robbed, stripped of their belongings, and the bus was set on fire.

Fortunately, the passengers managed to escape from the bus before it was engulfed in flames, breaking windows to exit. Survivors recounted the terrifying experience, with one, Chude Nnamdi, describing how the criminals attacked them along the Ore/Benin expressway, robbing them and subjecting them to physical violence.

Another survivor narrated the harrowing ordeal, explaining how the bandits, after robbing them, locked them inside the bus and set it ablaze. Despite sustaining injuries and losing all their belongings, including clothing, the passengers expressed gratitude that no fatalities occurred.

The distressing incident has left the victims stranded, with men, women, and children innocently traveling to the east for Easter celebrations recounting their traumatic experience and loss. The management of Ifesinachi Transport Nig. Ltd. expressed shock over the attack, emphasizing the need for improved security measures along major highways to safeguard travelers from such atrocities.
