The targeted assault occurred in the Damaturu local government area, with the terrorists setting fire to the palace of the district heads of Kukareta along the Damaturu-Maiduguri Road.

The midnight attack on Saturday sent shockwaves through the police base located 17km away from Damaturu, causing a firefight that persisted until 2 am. Terrified villagers sought refuge in nearby bushes as the assailants rampaged through homes, looting food supplies, and leaving destruction in their wake.

Eyewitnesses confirmed the tragic loss of three lives, including a police mobile officer who succumbed to gunshot wounds during the assault. The state security adviser, Major General Dahiru Abdulsalam (rtd), issued a press statement, detailing the destruction wrought by suspected Boko Haram terrorists.

Abdulsalam further confirmed the burning of the district head of Kukareta’s palace and two patrol vehicles belonging to security personnel. Despite the tragedy, he urged residents of the affected area to continue supporting the security agencies in their efforts.
