Sources informed Daily Trust that the soldiers fell victim to the ambush at Kamuya, a village near Buratai, the hometown of former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Tukur Buratai (rtd). The soldiers were on their way to Damaturu to purchase fuel.

A security insider lamented, “It’s very tragic; they were soldiers from the 135 Special Force Battalion Forward Operating Base in Buratai. They were ambushed en route to Damaturu, Yobe state, to procure fuel. Unfortunately, we lost an officer, a driver, a gunner, and four other escorts, while the wounded are currently receiving treatment in the hospital.”

A local eyewitness, narrowly escaping the ordeal, shared, “I cannot adequately describe the intensity of the gun battle that unfolded. The insurgents, numbering significantly, overwhelmed the soldiers. It’s only by the grace of God that I survived.”

The incident underscores the persistent threat posed by Boko Haram in the region, despite efforts by security forces to counter the insurgency.”
