Brace For Impact! FG Predicts Torrential Flooding In 19 States Over Next Five Days

The Federal Government has issued a nationwide flood alert, warning of heavy rainfall over a five-day period that could trigger significant flooding across 19 states and 76 vulnerable locations, according to iReporter Online.

The warning, released on Tuesday by the National Flood Early Warning Systems Centre under the Federal Ministry of Environment, urged residents and relevant authorities to take immediate precautionary actions, especially in light of the recent devastating floods in Ogun and Gombe States, according to iReporter Online.

The affected states—expected to face intense rainfall from August 5 to August 9, 2025—include Lagos, Plateau, Anambra, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Ebonyi, Cross River, Nasarawa, Benue, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Kano, Niger, Taraba, Jigawa, Yobe, Zamfara, Sokoto, Borno, and Gombe, covering multiple towns and communities.

The alert details high-risk areas such as Edor, Eket, Oron, Upenekang (Akwa Ibom); Tafawa-Balewa, Azare (Bauchi); Abakaliki, Ezilo (Ebonyi); Keffi, Wamba (Nasarawa); Agaku, Gboko (Benue); Zaria, Kafanchan (Kaduna); Funtua, Daura (Katsina); Bunza, Kamba (Kebbi); Gezawa, Kano (Kano); Kontagora (Niger); Mangu (Plateau); Takum (Taraba); Dutse, Hadejia (Jigawa); Potiskum (Yobe); Anka (Zamfara); and Wamakko (Sokoto).

With rainfall intensifying nationwide, according to iReporter Online, environmental authorities have stressed the urgency of evacuation plans, disaster preparedness, and strengthened coordination between state agencies to mitigate the expected flooding impact.
