BREAKING: ASUU Declares Indefinite Strike With Strong Reason (DETAILS)

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos branch, has initiated an indefinite strike, citing insufficient capital projects by the state government.

The lecturers are demanding additional hostel accommodation, the completion of the road network on campus, and the provision of staff quarters. Other issues include the completion of parameter fencing of the university and the establishment of a functional training policy with budgetary allocation for scholars’ training.

In a statement released on Thursday and signed by ASUU Chairman Comrade Hassan Monday Zitta and Secretary Comrade Deme Samson Bitrus, the strike is also a response to the state government’s failure to implement the second agreement signed in 2022 with the union, as revealed during the national executive council visitation team’s report.

The union is also requesting the provision of a functional police outpost in the university’s host community, deployment of armed civil defense corps operatives, payment of outstanding earned academic allowances, and resolution of other issues impacting productivity in the university.

The statement outlines that if the university management and the state government address the raised concerns, the union will call off the strike and resume normal academic activities.

The branch declared the strike during its congress meeting on Thursday, emphasizing that it would be comprehensive and indefinite until all the contentious issues are resolved.
