Authorities in Saudi Arabia have officially confirmed that the crescent moon marking the end of Ramadan was not sighted. Traditionally, the sighting of the moon signifies the conclusion of Ramadan for Muslims worldwide. However, in cases like this where the moon remains unseen, the fasting period automatically extends to the next day.

Meanwhile, the Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the National Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Sa’ad Abubakar, has directed the Muslim Ummah to commence observing the crescent of Shawwal 1445AH starting Monday.

In a statement conveyed by the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sambo Janaidu, the Sultan urged Muslims to begin searching for the new moon of Shawwal 1445AH on Monday. Any sightings should be promptly reported to the nearest District or Village Head for further communication to the Sultan.

Additionally, members of the public are encouraged to report any new moon sightings through designated telephone numbers provided by the Sultanate Council.

This announcement underscores the significance of celestial observations in determining religious events within the Islamic calendar, emphasizing the importance of community participation in the process.
