The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Heineken Lokpobiri, has announced that the Kaduna Refinery’s rehabilitation is set to conclude by the end of 2024.

In February 2023, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) signed an agreement with Korean company Daewoo Engineering and Construction Nigeria Limited for the refinery’s rehabilitation.

During Saturday’s visit, the Minister assessed the ongoing rehabilitation work under the quick-fix project, accompanied by NNPCL Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, and other senior ministry officials. The Managing Director of Kaduna Refinery, Mustapha Sugungun, guided the minister and his team through the plant.

Official sources indicate that the last major maintenance on the refinery was carried out approximately 15 years ago. Nevertheless, considering the progress achieved by the contractor overseeing the rehabilitation, the petroleum minister expressed optimism that the refinery will be operational by the end of 2024. This sentiment was also echoed by the NNPCL boss.
