What began as a scarcity in the Federal Capital Territory has now spread to Lagos, causing widespread inconvenience for motorists.

Yesterday, long queues formed at select filling stations across Nigeria’s economic hub, where independent marketers were among the few selling petrol. Prices soared between N610 to N800 per litre, varying by location.

In Mushin, only Mobil at Vono Bus Stop operated, while similar scenes unfolded at TotalEnergies and Tecno Oil stations in Festac Town. At NNPC Limited’s outlet on Ago Palace Way, lines stretched as motorists waited anxiously.

Desperate for fuel, motorists resorted to paying attendants up to N1,000 to procure petrol on their behalf, highlighting the severity of the shortage.

Meanwhile, NNPC Limited attributed the crisis to recent thunderstorms and floods disrupting petrol transfer operations, promising improved supplies soon. Despite assurances, queues persisted, prompting warnings against hoarding from NNPC.

As Lagosians endure the fallout, the city braces for further disruptions amid efforts to restore normalcy in petrol distribution.
