In a statement on Thursday, LP’s spokesman, Obiora Ifoh, explained that the party had recently concluded the 2023 presidential election, and a post-mortem analysis had yet to take place.
Ifoh emphasized that discussions on the party’s future direction had not occurred, and the party would inform Nigerians when such deliberations take place.

This statement was in response to a proposal by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the PDP flag bearer in the February poll, urging opposition parties to unite to challenge the ruling APC in the upcoming presidential election. Atiku expressed concerns on Tuesday about Nigeria moving towards a “one-party dictatorship” state and called for collaboration among opposition parties to counter the ruling APC.
Reacting in a statement on Thursday, the LP said Atiku’s call “was only a proposal and every Nigerian should be interested in making democracy work in Nigeria and that what we have presently is an autocracy”.
“There was no where in the response that the purported merger between LP and PDP was mentioned.” Ifoh emphasised.
