BREAKING: Stunner As Court Delivers Ruling In Case Seeking To Prevent Sylva From Participating In November 11 Governorship Election

The Federal High Court in Yenagoa has rejected a case filed by Isikima Johnson aimed at preventing the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate from participating in the November 11 off-cycle election in Bayelsa State.

Justice B. O. Quadri, the presiding judge, ruled on Tuesday that the case, identified as FHC/YNG/CS/114/2023, was time-barred, and therefore the court lacked jurisdiction to hear it.

Johnson, a member of the APC, who contested and lost in the party’s gubernatorial primary in the state in April, had initiated the suit, alleging irregularities in the primary election. She also claimed that the party’s deputy gubernatorial candidate, Joshua Maciver, was not qualified to be on the ballot.

Maciver is the running mate to Timipre Sylva, the APC gubernatorial candidate.

She argued that Maciver had a prior conviction and that he falsely stated his conviction status in his nomination forms submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission.

However, Justice Quadri determined that the suit against Maciver was time-barred, as it was filed more than 14 days after the occurrence of the matter for which Johnson was suing.

The state’s APC expressed that the ruling effectively removes the last obstacle for the party ahead of Saturday’s gubernatorial polls.

“Like the previous attempts, this one, too, has failed to stop us.

“We thank Bayelsa people for their confidence in APC expressed by their overwhelming support throughout the case. Bayelsa has won again.”
