The United States chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) criticized the demand for President Bola Tinubu’s resignation following his Supreme Court victory, deeming it unnecessary.

The APC USA also issued a warning against any form of intimidation directed at tribunal and Supreme Court justices, particularly those facing targeting by some Nigerians living abroad.

This condemnation comes in response to a protest organized by 30 different Nigerian diaspora organizations under the Coalition of New Nigeria Diaspora Movement, who called for the immediate resignation of the President.
Jackson Ude, the coalition’s Secretary General, made this appeal during a press conference on Monday, urging the European Union, including the United Kingdom and United States of America, to impose visa bans on all justices and judges of the Appeal and Supreme Courts who affirmed Tinubu’s election.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Chairman of the APC USA, Prof. Tai Balofin, characterized the protest as an unlawful development.
Balofin further described the action as a form of contempt of court, which he argued poses a significant concern for the country’s reputation.
Emphasizing the importance of upholding the principles of the rule of law, the APC USA highlighted that it is imperative to respect the decisions of the highest court in the land, in order to prevent undermining the foundations of Nigeria’s democratic system.
The statement read, “Our investigation revealed that the organisers are driven by a misguided pursuit of attention and shallow publicity.
“These actions, rooted in defiance of established legal procedures, only serve to sow discord and hatred within a nation that has long exemplified peaceful coexistence.
“The protest is a misdirected effort that, regrettably, seeks to incite unwarranted hostility and even the potential for conflict within a nation that has historically stood as a beacon of peace and unity.
“In light of these circumstances, the APC USA extends a firm call to the general public to refrain from engaging with these protesters from the coalition.
“Their actions are best described as a spectacle rather than a legitimate expression of grievances. We encourage all Nigerians to channel their energies into lawful and peaceful avenues to address concerns, thereby contributing to the progress and prosperity of our beloved country.
“APC USA remains steadfast in its commitment to upholding the values of democracy, unity, and respect for the rule of law. We invite all Nigerians to partake in responsible and lawful methods of expressing their concerns, thus furthering the cause of our great nation.”
