Carabao Cup Final: Newcastle Beat Liverpool To Win EFL At Wembley

Newcastle United claimed the 2025 Carabao Cup, defeating Liverpool at Wembley Stadium with goals from Dan Burn and Alexander Isak.

A well-executed header from England’s left-back Burn put Newcastle ahead just before halftime. Burn’s goal came after a corner kick by Kieran Trippier, which was directed to the towering 6ft 7in defender, who powered a header into the bottom-left corner, beating Liverpool’s goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.

Newcastle had effectively restricted Liverpool to just one shot in the first half. After Isak’s goal was ruled out for offside, the Swedish forward extended their lead to 2-0 with a precise finish, assisted by Jacob Murphy.

Despite a 94th-minute goal from Federico Chiesa, which couldn’t prevent a loss for Liverpool, Newcastle held onto their lead. Liverpool remains a strong contender for the Premier League title this season, sitting at the top of the table under manager Arne Slot.
