Chaos On Lagos Roads: Two Injured, Three Rescued In Mile 2 And Surulere Crashes

 Two persons were critically injured while three others were rescued in separate road accidents that occurred over the weekend in the Mile 2 and Surulere areas of Lagos State.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed that its officers intervened in the two incidents which took place at Olohunsogo Bus Stop, inward Mile 2, and at the Stadium Hotel axis of Ojuelegba in Surulere.

At Mile 2, a Toyota Camry with registration number FST 450 HG reportedly rammed into a stationary Scania truck marked LSR 243 YC, leaving the driver and a passenger seriously injured. They were promptly rescued by LASTMA officials and taken to Ademola Hospital, opposite Ijanikin Police Station, for urgent medical attention. Preliminary findings indicated that excessive speeding caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The truck driver was apprehended at the scene, while operatives from the Ijanikin Police Division provided security support. The wreckage was swiftly cleared to ease traffic congestion.

In a separate incident at Ojuelegba, a commercial white Mazda bus with registration number KRD 141 YH lost control and crashed into the median along the BRT corridor near Stadium Hotel. The driver, who was unconscious, and two passengers were rescued and taken to a nearby hospital. One of the survivors, Mrs. Aina Kadri, disclosed that the accident was triggered by a sudden brake failure while the bus was at high speed.

Confirming both incidents, LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, praised the quick response and collaboration between LASTMA officials and the Nigeria Police. He reiterated the agency’s commitment to timely rescue operations and effective traffic management across Lagos. Bakare-Oki also cautioned motorists against reckless driving, urging them to respect speed limits and ensure regular vehicle maintenance.
