Chelsea Dismiss Liam Rosenior Following Poor Run Of Results

However, a sharp decline in form ultimately sealed his fate, with seven defeats coming in his final eight matches, including five in the Premier League.

The final blow reportedly came on Tuesday night when Chelsea suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat to Brighton at the Amex Stadium, a result that extended their alarming goal drought to five consecutive league games without scoring—marking their worst attacking run since 1912.

Following internal discussions on Wednesday, Chelsea’s ownership group, BlueCo, led by Behdad Eghbali, decided to terminate Rosenior’s contract immediately, just days before a crucial FA Cup semi-final clash against Leeds United.

In an official statement, the club expressed appreciation for Rosenior’s efforts and professionalism during his tenure but acknowledged that recent performances had fallen far below expectations. The statement confirmed that Calum McFarlane will take charge as interim head coach until the end of the season, with support from the existing backroom staff, as Chelsea continue their push for European qualification and FA Cup success.

Although the club had initially planned to review Rosenior’s position at the end of the 2027/28 season, the severity of the recent slump prompted an immediate change in direction as Chelsea move to stabilise their managerial situation and begin a new long-term planning process.
