Chelsea Seal £48.5m Deal For Jamie Gittens From Dortmund
Premier League powerhouse Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Borussia Dortmund’s exciting winger, Jamie Gittens, in a deal valued at £48.5 million, with an additional £3.5 million set aside in potential add-ons.
The 20-year-old English forward, who emerged from Manchester City’s youth academy before joining Dortmund in 2020, has penned a seven-year contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until June 2032.
During his stint in Germany, Gittens notched 17 goals and provided 14 assists across 107 appearances for Dortmund, while also establishing himself as a key figure in England’s Under-21 setup.
This latest move continues Chelsea’s recent trend of recruiting players with Manchester City ties. Earlier this summer, the Blues secured the services of ex-City striker Liam Delap from Ipswich Town, following their acquisition of Cole Palmer two seasons ago.
The London club have also strengthened with the signings of Brighton forward Joao Pedro, Sporting’s Dario Essugo and Strasbourg defender Mamadou Sarr.
Speaking after finalising his transfer, Gittens expressed his delight at joining Chelsea. “It feels amazing to become part of such a big club,” he said.
Borussia Dortmund’s sporting director, Sebastien Kehl, praised Gittens’ contributions, noting: “Jamie is an outstanding player who brought us a lot of joy. He’s ready to take the next step at Chelsea, and we wish him the very best.”
