in the banking, telecommunications, and aviation industries.
A statement from Mr. Ondaje Ijagwu, Director of Corporate Affairs at the FCCPC, confirmed that the investigation would address concerns such as network failures preventing customers from accessing their funds in the banking sector, and ongoing issues in telecommunications involving undelivered data services and poor customer support.
Ijagwu also highlighted that Air Peace would be scrutinized for allegations of excessive ticket pricing, particularly for advance bookings on some domestic routes.
The inquiry, scheduled between December 3 and December 5, aims to tackle poor service delivery, exploitative practices, and potential violations of consumer rights. The investigation is based on provisions in the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act, 2018, which empowers the FCCPC to address practices that undermine consumer rights or create market unfairness.
The companies involved will be required to appear before the Commission to provide information and respond to questions, helping the FCCPC resolve the issues. Ijagwu emphasized the FCCPC’s commitment to protecting consumer rights and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Consumers are encouraged to continue reporting issues via the FCCPC’s official channels.
