Crackdown In Kwara! Security Forces Nab Tambaya And 14 Others In Midnight Sweep
Security operatives in Kwara State have arrested 15 suspected criminals, including the notorious Tambaya, during a coordinated operation involving the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), the police, and local vigilante groups. The raid, which led to a deadly exchange of gunfire, resulted in the neutralization of several gang members.
According to iReporter Online, Rafiu Ajakaye, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, confirmed the arrests which occurred in Edu and Patigi local government areas. He stated that the suspects were linked to recent attacks and security breaches within those communities.
“Tambaya, who masterminded the recent assault on security operatives and vigilantes in Gada, Lafiagi, was arrested alongside eight others in a major encounter,” Ajakaye said. He further revealed that two kidnap victims were rescued during the operation and ₦11 million in suspected ransom money was recovered from the suspects.
According to iReporter Online, an additional sweep on Wednesday led to the arrest of 20 more individuals believed to be engaged in gun running and logistical support for criminal gangs. These arrests occurred in Ifelodun Local Government Area, and the suspects were transferred to Abuja for further investigation.
Ajakaye attributed the success of the operation to collaboration between Kwara security operatives and their counterparts in Kogi and Niger states, which effectively blocked escape routes for the criminals. He explained that nearly 400 specialized officers were deployed for the crackdown in identified hotspots like Ifelodun, Ekiti, Edu, and Patigi.
Weapons and criminal supplies were also recovered from suspects in Babanla, Ifelodun. The governor’s aide disclosed that several captives were freed as the pressure intensified on criminal hideouts.
According to iReporter Online, the state government emphasized that the offensive against criminal elements will continue in Edu, Patigi, and Eruku, with heightened surveillance of border communities. Governor AbdulRazaq reiterated his administration’s resolve to cleanse forests and rural corridors of criminal threats, and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security authorities.
