The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced the successful recovery of its official account, two days after the military authorities disclosed that the platform had been targeted in an attempted cyberattack.

The military confirmed the development on Monday through a brief message posted on the recovered account, assuring followers that control had been restored and thanking the public for its patience and support.

The recovery came after the DHQ announced on Saturday that its official account had been subjected to an attempted unauthorised breach. The military subsequently activated technical measures to secure the platform and prevent further unauthorised access.

Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, had described the incident as a cybersecurity matter, assuring Nigerians that technical teams were working to regain full control of the account.

The military had also warned the public to disregard any suspicious, misleading or unauthorised messages that might have been published from the account while efforts to restore it were ongoing.

During the disruption, the DHQ advised Nigerians to rely on its verified Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp platforms for authentic information concerning the activities and operations of the Armed Forces.

According to Ireporter Online, the successful recovery of the account has brought an end to the temporary disruption, with the DHQ reiterating its commitment to strengthening the security of its digital communication channels and ensuring that members of the public receive accurate and credible information.
