‘Don’t Complain About Politicians if You Buy Charts’ — Magixx Fires Back at Critics

Nigerian singer and Mavin Records signee, Alexander Adelabu, popularly known as Magixx, has raised serious concerns over alleged manipulation of music streaming charts, particularly on Apple Music, claiming it is a major obstacle for emerging artistes.

In a post shared via his official social media handle, Magixx expressed frustration at what he described as the “buying” of chart positions, alleging that several top-ranking songs do not reflect organic popularity but rather paid placements.

According to information obtained by iReporter Online, the singer lamented that this growing trend is stifling the rise of fresh talent in Nigeria’s music industry. “Just so y’all know,” he wrote, “the reason why we don’t have enough breakout artists these days is because almost every spot on Apple Music is bought!”

His remarks sparked a wave of reactions online. While some fans supported his position and called for more transparency on streaming platforms, others criticized the statement, suggesting he could employ the same tactic if he feels disadvantaged.

One user bluntly replied, “You self buy nah,” prompting the artiste to issue a sharp retort. Magixx pointed out the irony in such suggestions, stating that individuals who criticize corruption in governance often perpetuate similar practices within the entertainment space. “Whenever you want to complain about corrupt governance in this country, remember what you are… and shut up,” he responded.

Magixx’s commentary adds to the growing discourse around streaming fraud and the lack of fair representation in digital music charts. Other artists in the industry, including Blaqbonez, have also in the past decried what they see as a growing trend of artificial chart domination, warning that such practices threaten the future credibility of the Nigerian music scene.
