Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) reportedly stormed the Abuja residence of former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, on Monday, forcibly ejecting occupants in what witnesses described as a coordinated operation. The incident is said to have occurred at Malami’s Maitama home shortly after a visit by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, who reportedly spent about an hour at the residence before leaving.

Witnesses said the operatives advanced immediately after the former vice-president exited the premises. The reason for the operation has not been officially disclosed.

The development has escalated political tension, coming amid allegations that the administration of President Bola Tinubu is targeting opposition figures ahead of upcoming elections. Malami, who has recently faced corruption charges, is perceived by some critics as being under political pressure. Observers have suggested that legal actions against him could be part of a wider strategy to curb dissent and encourage defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

The Presidency, however, has repeatedly denied that ongoing prosecutions are politically motivated, stressing that all actions against former public officials are conducted under the rule of law. Earlier on Monday, Atiku shared photographs of his visit to Malami on social media, though he did not mention the subsequent DSS operation.
