The Defence Headquarters has ordered military personnel nationwide to remain on high alert as Nigerians prepare for Easter celebrations. According to reports, Major General Michael Onoja, Director of Defence Media Operations, stated during a briefing in Abuja on Tuesday that troops across the country have been placed on heightened alert to prevent security breaches during the festive period.

Major General Onoja explained that similar measures are usually implemented during major celebrations, including Christmas and Eid-el-Fitr, and that the same level of preparedness will continue throughout Easter. He emphasized that security forces are aware that criminal elements often exploit festive periods, prompting instructions for troops to maintain constant vigilance.

The Defence Headquarters also highlighted its ongoing collaboration with the United States, which includes intelligence sharing and training programs aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s counter-terrorism efforts. While the results of the partnership may not be immediately visible, Onoja noted that intelligence support is guiding military operations and will gradually improve security outcomes. Certain operational details remain confidential due to security considerations, but the military confirmed that intelligence on potential threats is being actively used to inform tactical responses.
