EFCC Reveals Why Blessing CEO Can’t Be Arrested
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has explained why it has yet to apprehend controversial relationship expert Blessing CEO over her recent cancer claims and fundraising activities.
According to Ireporter Online, Blessing CEO had claimed last month that she was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer and sought financial support from Nigerians. She later clarified in interviews that she does not have stage four cancer, attributing the initial reports to a misunderstanding. She also stated that she was awaiting further medical tests, had not begun chemotherapy, and received ₦13 million from the public—not the widely circulated ₦100 million.
The claims triggered public outrage on social media, with many calling for the anti-graft agency to take action. However, a source within the EFCC told Ireporter Online that no formal petition has been filed against Blessing CEO. The commission requires a legitimate complainant to open an investigation and, if necessary, pursue a case in court.
“Everybody is saying EFCC should arrest Blessing CEO. But nobody has placed a petition before the EFCC CEO. As an anti‑corruption agency, we cannot act solely on social media agitation without a credible petition,” the source said.
The EFCC official stressed the importance of a petitioner as a potential witness in court. “If we go by social media agitation and there is a need to go to court, who is going to serve as a witness? Who are we going to say has petitioned the commission?” they asked.
The commission urged anyone with evidence, including records of donations to Blessing CEO, to come forward. “If someone obtains anything by false pretence, they are liable to EFCC investigation if it can be established. Those with receipts and evidence should come forward,” the source added.
