Enough Of The Hypocrisy” — Rufai Oseni Fires At Atiku Abubakar On Zoning Remark
According to Ireporter Online, Arise News anchor and journalist Rufai Oseni has accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of hypocrisy in his recent comments on the zoning of Nigeria’s presidency.
Oseni made the remark during a live television broadcast while reacting to Atiku’s criticism of zoning the presidency to the South. Atiku had argued that fielding another southern candidate against a sitting southern president is politically unwise and inconsistent with Nigeria’s democratic history.
However, Oseni countered that the former vice president only supports zoning when it aligns with his political interests but rejects it when it does not. He made the comments while analysing the zoning debate ahead of the upcoming general elections.
“Rufai Oseni should stop being hypocritical. When zoning favours him, he has no problem with it, but when it doesn’t favour him, he suddenly declares it self-defeating,” Oseni said.
He further questioned Atiku’s past political actions, referencing his involvement in legal disputes surrounding the People’s Democratic Party zoning arrangement in 2011 against former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Oseni added that court proceedings at the time acknowledged the existence of the PDP zoning formula, even though the courts declined jurisdiction over the matter.
He also recalled Atiku’s political movements in 2007 after parting ways with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, suggesting inconsistencies in his stance on zoning over the years.
