Éric Chelle Makes Big Changes To Super Eagles Management

According to Ireporter Online, Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has taken a significant step in his managerial career by signing with French-based agency Wilders Sport, ending his long-standing partnership with agent Abraham Sidibe.

The 48-year-old Franco-Malian confirmed the move on his Instagram page on Wednesday, closing a chapter with Sidibe, who played a pivotal role in Chelle’s appointment as Nigeria’s national team coach in January 2025.

Chelle’s profile has risen sharply over the past year, highlighted by guiding the Super Eagles to a third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco. His achievements have restored confidence in the national team and strengthened his reputation across the continent, attracting attention from several African nations reportedly interested in his services.

In a discussion with British-Nigerian journalist Osasu Obayiuwana of The Guardian UK, Chelle explained that his decision is aimed at taking his career to the next level. “It is time for me to take myself to another level. I felt that this agency will give me the required support and advice that I need to do this,” he said.

Wilders Sport, known for its extensive involvement in French football, represents players across multiple tiers of the country’s league system. Chelle’s affiliation with the agency has intensified speculation about potential opportunities in Europe, particularly France, with Ligue 1 club Olympique de Marseille reportedly in search of a new manager following Roberto De Zerbi’s departure earlier this month.

While no formal approach has been confirmed, Chelle’s name has been mentioned among prospective candidates. For now, however, his focus remains on the Super Eagles. Appointed on a two-year contract in early 2025, he is expected to build on the momentum from AFCON as Nigeria prepares for upcoming international fixtures.
