FCT Council Polls: PDP Chairmanship Candidate Dumps Party For APC

Less than 24 hours after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship candidate for Bwari Area Council, Julius Adamu, stepped down in favor of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Joshua Ishaku Musa, another PDP contender has followed suit in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC). Hon. Zadna Dantani, the PDP chairmanship candidate for AMAC, officially withdrew from the race to support APC candidate Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu.

According to Ireporter Online, Dantani cited the intervention of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, as a key factor in his decision. He confirmed that he had submitted a formal letter of withdrawal to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Dantani, addressing his supporters, stated, “I want to sincerely appreciate everyone who supported us. By the grace of God, we are doing this not for personal interests but in recognition of the broader goals of our party and the good works of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Following extensive consultations and the counsel of our party leader, we have agreed not to contest against my brother, Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu.”

He encouraged his supporters across all 12 wards of the Abuja Municipal Area Council to rally behind Maikalangu in the upcoming elections.

In his letter to INEC, Dantani wrote: “I, Hon. Zadna Dantani of Gosa Village along Airport Road, FCT Abuja, a member and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have decided to voluntarily withdraw from contesting for the Chairmanship position of Abuja Municipal Area Council in the forthcoming elections scheduled for 21st February, 2026. This decision follows thorough consultation with my family and relevant stakeholders and is made entirely of my own free will.”
