Ex-SDP Chairman Gabam Docked Over Alleged ₦35m Fraud Scandal

According to Ireporter Online, the Magistrate Court sitting in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, on Tuesday, heard the case involving the embattled former National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Shehu Gabam, over allegations of financial misappropriation and related offences.

The matter, which also involves the current SDP chairman, Sodiq Abubakar, is filed under suit number DCC/10/2026 before the FCT Chief Magistrate Court. Gabam, alongside one Chukwuma Uchechukwu, was arraigned on six counts bordering on alleged misappropriation of over ₦35 million, forgery, and breach of trust.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read before Chief Magistrate Amauche Onyedium. Following his plea, the court granted him bail in the sum of ₦3 million with two sureties who must reside within Abuja.

Speaking after the court sitting, the current SDP chairman, Sodiq Abubakar, said the party had initiated legal action against Gabam as part of efforts to restore integrity within its ranks. He expressed confidence that the judiciary would deliver justice for members of the party.

Abubakar further alleged that the party had earlier petitioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to prosecute Gabam, but no action was taken. He claimed that Gabam mismanaged party funds between 2022 and 2023.

Abubakar was elected as SDP chairman during the party’s national convention held in Bauchi on May 9, 2026.
