Ex-Soldier Who Killed Yobe Islamic Cleric, Sheikh Aisami, Sentenced To Death By Hanging

In a recent verdict, the Yobe State High Court in Potiskum sentenced a dismissed soldier, Lance Corporal John Gabriel, to death by hanging, and Lance Corporal Adamu Gideon to 10 years imprisonment.

The judgment was delivered by Justice Usman Zanna Mohammed, who found Gabriel guilty of murder and Gideon guilty of conspiracy.

The case revolved around the brutal murder of Sheikh Goni Aisami, a prominent Islamic scholar based in Gashua, on August 22, 2022.

The scholar was killed in Karasuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State by a soldier to whom he had given a lift while traveling from Kano to Gashua.

The Yobe State Government pursued the matter through the Ministry of Justice, leading to the court’s judgment. Justice Mohammed, in delivering the verdict, considered the facts before the court and the defendants’ failure to provide essential witnesses to support their claims.
