Explosive Raid! PINL And Federal Task Force Smash Illegal Refineries Hidden As Logistics Firm And Piggery In Rivers!
Collaborative security operations between Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL) and the Special Prosecution Task Force (SPT) of the Federal Government have led to the busting of two illegal refining sites in Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State, according to iReporter Online.
The illicit sites were cleverly disguised, one operating under the cover of a logistics company, Emekus Nigeria Ltd, and the other as a large but faceless piggery.
Both locations were found actively refining millions of litres of stolen petroleum products, with refining equipment seized from the premises, iReporter Online reports.
Emekus Nigeria Limited is situated at the Umuebule axis of Oyigbo, while the piggery is located at a remote area east of the Imo River bank.
According to iReporter Online, bags of stolen crude awaiting refining, three tanks of varying capacities, and a 33,000-litre truck were discovered at the logistics site.
Meanwhile, the piggery, home to hungry and abandoned pigs and piglets, also had a section transformed into a crude oil cooking site, revealing the extent of illegal activity hidden in plain sight.
During the inspection led by CSP Omar Sini, Head of Investigation for the Special Prosecution Team, a suspect believed to be the farm manager fled when the team approached.
CSP Sini confirmed that the bust was based on credible intelligence from PINL surveillance officers. He also revealed that three suspects— including a woman and two accomplices—were arrested and will face prosecution after investigations conclude.
According to iReporter Online, the Special Prosecution Team currently has 108 suspects remanded across the Niger Delta and Abuja, with two convictions secured and 38 cases actively at trial.
Andrew Ebikeme of PINL explained that the discovery resulted from intelligence provided by community-based surveillance guards, stressing the strong collaboration between PINL, the SPT, and host communities in protecting Nigeria’s oil assets.
CSP Sini further noted that locating the piggery required the use of drone technology due to its remote location.
Sixty thousand liters of stolen products were also found stored in sacks inside the premises of Emekus Nigeria Limited, underscoring the scale of the illegal operations uncovered, according to iReporter Online.
