The man, believed to be in his 50s, had recently returned to Quetta from the United States with his family, according to local police chief Babar Baloch. He confessed to killing his daughter earlier this week after she refused to adopt more modest attire and cease sharing what the family considered “indecent” content online.

Authorities are treating the incident as an honor killing, a practice that remains alarmingly common in Pakistan. According to the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), around 1,000 women are murdered each year by close male relatives—fathers, brothers, or sons—under the guise of protecting family honor.

Despite a 2016 law aimed at curbing such killings, legal loopholes allow perpetrators to escape punishment if pardoned by the victim’s relatives, Amnesty International has noted. This has enabled the practice to persist despite efforts to eliminate it.
