The unfortunate event unfolded as three Ekiti traditional rulers were returning from a meeting in Irele-Ekiti, where they were ambushed by bandits. This resulted in the cold-blooded murder of the Elesun of Esun-Ekiti, David Ogunsakin, and the Onimojo of Omojola-Ekiti, Olatunde Olusola. Fortunately, the Alara of Ara-Ekiti, Adebayo Fatoba, survived the attack.

Expressing his dismay on Tuesday, Fayemi characterized the killings as an appalling act of violence in a state that has been relatively peaceful. He extended his condolences to the families of the deceased monarchs, the state government, and the residents, emphasizing the need for decisive action by security agencies against the perpetrators. Fayemi highlighted the alarming increase in kidnapping activities across the country in the New Year and stressed the necessity of an all-of-society approach to address this national problem.

The country has witnessed an upsurge in the activity of kidnappers since the start of the New Year, and Ekiti state, which has been relatively peaceful, also appears to be experiencing an increase in this heinous criminality.”
