According to Ireporter Online, Joan Laporta has secured a fresh five-year term as president of FC Barcelona, promising that the club will be “unstoppable” under his leadership. Laporta, 63, won 68 per cent of the vote in the presidential election, which saw nearly 48,500 members cast ballots, representing a 42.34 per cent turnout. His main opponent, Victor Font, 53, received just under 30 per cent of the votes, with the remainder declared invalid.

Laporta, who stepped down last month in accordance with club regulations to contest the election, described his victory as decisive. “It makes us unstoppable,” he said. “No-one will stop us. Exciting years lie ahead. They will be the best of our lives. This is a wonderful club, where the members elect their president and their board of directors. A club unique in the world, truly extraordinary.”

First elected as Barcelona president in 2003, Laporta oversaw one of the club’s most successful periods, including the appointment of Pep Guardiola as manager. In his victory speech, he thanked members for what he described as a “celebration of democracy and civic spirit” and pledged that his new administration would continue to defend the club “against everything and everyone.”

Looking ahead, Laporta promised to strengthen the first team and complete the redevelopment of Camp Nou. Despite facing financial challenges in recent years, Barcelona returned to domestic dominance last season with a treble and currently lead La Liga by four points over rivals Real Madrid.

The club’s focus now turns to Europe, where Barcelona will face Newcastle United in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League round-of-16 tie, following a dramatic 1-1 draw in the first leg secured by teenager Lamine Yamal with a 96th-minute penalty.
