FCCPC Blocks MultiChoice’s Subscription Hike – Investigation Launched
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has directed MultiChoice Nigeria to suspend its planned subscription price hike until an ongoing investigation is concluded.

MultiChoice is now required to appear at a rescheduled investigative hearing on March 6, 2025, along with all relevant officers and a comprehensive response to the commission’s inquiries.
As part of the regulatory intervention, MultiChoice must maintain the existing price structure as of February 27, 2025. The FCCPC emphasized that enforcing a status quo on pricing is crucial to preventing potential consumer harm.
The commission had earlier summoned MultiChoice over concerns about frequent price adjustments. MultiChoice had announced a new tariff structure set to take effect from March 1, 2025, citing increased operational costs. Under the proposed pricing, DStv Premium subscribers would pay ₦44,500, Compact+ would rise to ₦30,000, and Compact to ₦19,000. GOtv’s Supa Plus package was set to increase to ₦16,800.
The FCCPC warned that if MultiChoice fails to provide satisfactory explanations or is found violating fair market principles, it could face regulatory sanctions.
