Federal Government Plans To Establish Kanem Museum As Borno Hosts Historic Cultural Summit

The Minister of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Mrs. Hannatu Musawa, unveiled this initiative during the inaugural Kanem Borno Cultural Summit and Colloquium held in Maiduguri. The summit, themed ‘Toward Achieving Sustainable Development’, was organized by the North East Development Commission (NEDC), under the stewardship of Alhaji Goni Alkali, the Managing Director.

Mrs. Musawa emphasized the importance of preserving Kanuri artifacts and antiques, highlighting their significance in reflecting the historical and cultural identity of the ancient Kanem Borno Empire and Civilization. She assured stakeholders of the government’s commitment to establishing the museum, calling for support from the Borno state government to make the project a reality.

In his address, Governor Babagana Zulum pledged continued collaboration with traditional leaders to safeguard the cultural identity of the Kanem Borno people, expressing optimism that such initiatives would contribute to restoring peace and security in the region. He urged patience and cooperation from attendees, promising a more robust cultural summit in the future.

The summit, graced by dignitaries from Chad, Niger, Cameroon, Central Africa, Libya, and other countries, served as a platform to promote Kanuri cultural identity to the world. It received blessings from prominent figures like Babagana Kingibe and the Chairman of Borno Emirate Concerned Citizens Forum, Zanna Bogma, who stressed the importance of unity and cultural preservation amidst security challenges.

The event underscored the significance of cultural heritage in fostering unity and resilience in the face of adversity. With the establishment of the Kanem Museum and the commitment of stakeholders, Borno aims to reclaim its cultural glory and propel sustainable development in the region.
