FG Lowers The Boom On NCoS – 74 Officers Face Sack And Demotion

ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE, the Federal Government has taken sweeping disciplinary action against personnel of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), resulting in the dismissal of 15 officers and the demotion of 59 others for confirmed breaches of professional standards.

In addition, 42 officers were issued written warnings as corrective measures for serious misconduct and violations of service regulations.

ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE, these sanctions followed a review of over 231 disciplinary cases by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB).

Sixteen personnel were completely exonerated, while seven others remain on suspension pending further investigation into their involvement in a high-profile case.

One particular officer, due to the gravity of his offence, was suspended and referred to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for prosecution.

The board also approved the compulsory retirement of eight officers, while one had his rank reversed with an order to refund all earnings he received while wrongly occupying that position.

ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who chairs the CDCFIB, reaffirmed the government’s resolve to uphold high ethical and professional standards within the service.

Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Nwakuche, added that disciplinary measures will continue to be implemented with fairness and in strict compliance with existing rules and procedures, urging public cooperation in maintaining integrity across the system.
