The closed-door session, held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, underscored the government’s commitment to addressing the challenges faced by Nigerians. Notable attendees included the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Yemi Cardoso, along with ministers responsible for key sectors such as education, finance, agriculture, and national planning.

Disagreements between political parties added complexity to the situation, with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and opposition parties offering contrasting views on the root cause of the protests in states like Niger and Kano. While the APC accused the opposition of inciting unrest against President Bola Tinubu, opposition parties pointed fingers at the government’s policies.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, speaking on behalf of President Tinubu, emphasized the government’s concern and commitment to alleviating hardships faced by Nigerians. He reassured the public that there is no food shortage in the country, attributing the price hikes to external factors and opportunistic elements seeking to exploit the situation.

The government’s resolve to address the issue was evident as the special presidential committee convened to devise strategies to ensure food availability and reduce the burden on citizens. With ongoing discussions and concerted efforts, the government aims to provide relief and stability in the face of economic challenges.
