Sunday Igboho Saga: FG Calls Out British High Commissioner For Urgent TalksThe Federal Government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has summoned the British High Commissioner following the recent visit of Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, to 10 Downing Street, where he submitted a petition.

Naija News reports that Igboho submitted the petition on behalf of Professor Adebanji Akintoye, leader of the Yoruba Nation movement, which is calling for the UK Prime Minister’s intervention in their push to establish a Yoruba-dominated country.

A statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Ambassador Eche Abu-Obe, on Tuesday, October 15, confirmed the meeting. During the discussion, the British High Commissioner acknowledged the concerns sparked by the petition but clarified that media reports had been misleading.

The High Commissioner explained that the submission of the letter followed established procedures allowing petitions to be delivered to 10 Downing Street, without implying any endorsement from the UK government or its Parliamentary Petitions Committee.

He further emphasized the UK’s long-standing policy of not interfering in the internal affairs of sovereign nations and noted that similar petitions had been rejected in the past by both the UK Government and the Parliamentary Petitions Committee.

The statement concluded with the High Commissioner reaffirming the importance of maintaining strong bilateral relations between the UK and Nigeria while committing to ongoing communication with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the matter.
