Pedro, the former Lagos leader, shared his sentiments about Edu through a statement on Wednesday, likening her to a daughter and expressing empathy for her current challenges.
Recalling their first meeting, Pedro stated, “I first met Betta when she was introduced to me as a candidate for Women Leader of our party in Abuja in early 2022. Shortly after, she was in Lagos on a courtesy visit, and I immediately liked her style, her carriage, and comportment.”
He highlighted Edu’s confidence, articulation, and ambitious nature, emphasizing her hard work during the party’s campaign. Pedro acknowledged the controversies surrounding Edu, including her suspension by the President and questioning by the EFCC, asserting that accountability is necessary.
Pedro conveyed his sympathy for Edu’s situation, describing her as a promising individual who could have served the nation in higher capacities. He questioned what he would do if she were his daughter, emphasizing the need for valuable lessons to be learned from her experiences.
Addressing young Nigerians aspiring for public office, Pedro advised seeking credible mentors to guide them. He emphasized the importance of mentorship in navigating the challenges of public service and encouraged other young individuals not to be discouraged by Edu’s misadventure.
“The nation needs more young people in public service, and I hope her misadventure will not discourage others in her age bracket. My advice to all young people who are called to service in public office is to seek out a mentor of a public officer serving or retired with some measure of credibility and good pedigree who will guide and mentor them on how to navigate the murky waters of public office,” he added
