According to Davidson Malison, the national publicity secretary of the Irigwe Development Association, the Nkienzha community in the Rigwe Chiefdom was targeted in the early hours of Monday, resulting in three fatalities and one severe injury from machete wounds.

Tragically, another life was lost in a related attack on Saturday night in the village of Teegbe, exacerbating the community’s grief.

The surge in violence is further evidenced by a vehicle ambush on Friday, resulting in a burned car and injuries to an individual, heightening fear and uncertainty among locals.

The Rigwe nation’s leadership, including the traditional council and development association, has condemned these acts as “callous” and “barbaric”.

Reverend Ronku Aka, the paramount ruler of Rigwe Chiefdom, and Robert Ashi, President of the Irigwe Development Association, have urgently called on security agencies to apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators of these heinous crimes.

These incidents add to a grim trend of violence in Plateau State, with over 200 individuals killed in attacks on the Bokkos and Barkin Ladi local government areas on Christmas Eve, accompanied by extensive destruction of homes and farmlands.

The new year brought no respite, as January saw over 30 fatalities and widespread property damage in Kwahaslalek village, Mangu Local Government Area.

Responding to the escalating violence, Governor Caleb Mutfwang had imposed a curfew on the affected Local Government Area in January, though subsequently lifted it.
